The fish were not where we expected to find them.  The wind howled, Stefan at times just let his long leader out in the wind and lowered the rod tip to present the fly. Today’s lesson seems to be that one has to find the cleanest water, the most scoured out channel, generally where the current flows the strongest. This is where the most food and most oxygen are available and hence where the fish are to be found.  Caught all the bigger fish in very shallow water. Smaller but well conditioned fish taken from deeper waters, pools that could be referred to as holding water. Pools that won’t dry up with dropping levels.  During the day Stefan returned to an area where he was unsuccessful in windy conditions and when the wind dropped he had a take on almost every cast. All fish were between 10” and 14” and of a high condition factor.
