ANNUAL EVENTS

The Association has organized a number of successful Expo's, Workshops and Festivals dating back to 1992. In the Barkly East district, an annual event based in Rhodes has developed into a popular get-together of enthusiasts in early December each year. Since inception in 1996, the event has been sponsored ever since by Bell's Extra Special Old Scotch Whisky and is known as the Bell's Whisky Wild Trout Festival that is now held in March/April each year.

In the course of the 1997 Festival, over 800 rainbow trout, 11 brown trout and 17 yellowfish were caught and released over a period of three days by approximately 50 fly fishers. 1998 and 1999 yielded similar results, adeqauately demonstrating the quality of the fishing and the fishermen!

The first-ever ladies event in South Africa was established at the behest of the Association in 1998 by the late Elwin Love. The Pajero Ladies Flyfishing Festival is based in Ugie during September each year. It has been enjoyed by participants ever since and has been sponsored by Pajero since inception. This milestone in fly fishing now forms part of the Ugie calendar and will continue on an annual basis into the foreseeable future.

Another Wild Trout Association inspired event is the annual Karringmelk Clinic held on the Karringmelkspruit near Lady Grey. This event is specifically aimed at introducing beginners to the art as well as allowing more experienced proponents to refine their skills.
