Doing the Right Thing
Thirty-five years of mutual respect with the farming community of the Eastern Cape Highlands — and the obligations every visiting angler carries.
Doing the Right Thing
The WTA’s relationship with the farming community of the Eastern Cape Highlands has been built over 35 years on mutual respect, goodwill, and shared interest in protecting the water and the land. Every angler who fishes WTA water is a guest on private farmland.
This places real obligations on visiting fly fishers:
- Observe all rules without exception.
- Display your permit correctly on your dashboard at all times.
- Return your catch return accurately and honestly.
- Respect fences, gates, livestock, and crops.
- Carry out all litter – including fishing line, tippet, and food packaging.
- Report any concerns about water quality, poaching, or damage to the RTIC.
The continuation of access to this extraordinary fishery depends entirely on the farming community’s willingness to allow it. That willingness is not automatic – it is earned, maintained, and renewed through the behaviour of every angler who visits.
